UW Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Administrator, Social Work & Care Coordination. This individual will have overall administrative and operational responsibility for UWMC Social Work and Care Coordination which includes Patient and Family Housing Program, Palliative Care Program, Clinical Resource Management, and Interpreter Services. The Assistant Administrator is responsible for leadership of multiple programs including day-to-day operations, direction, strategic planning, budgeting, human resources and compliance activities as well as the coordination of the provision of effective and efficient high-quality patient-centered care. Key initiatives led by this position include but are not limited to UW Medicine Post Acute Care, UW Medicine ACP, Honoring Choices, and Length of Stay/Capacity Management. Function as a leader on the senior Patient Care Leadership team at UWMC.
Leadership
Serves as the Patient Care Services leader working collaboratively with Chief Nursing Officer in all aspects of leadership role.
Chairs numerous committees and task forces.
Serves a role model for managers, team members and staff demonstrating UWMC values.
Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational goals and objectives. Ensures goals and objectives are achieved.
Annually oversees multiple operating plans and targets in conjunction with medical center accountability model. Monitors and reports progress on an ongoing basis.
Works with the interdisciplinary leadership teams to coordinate patient care operations and care delivery.
Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational goals and objectives. Ensures goals and objectives are achieved.
Annually oversees multiple program operating plans and targets in conjunction with medical center accountability model. Monitors and reports progress on an ongoing basis.
Works with the interdisciplinary leadership teams to coordinate patient care operations and care delivery.
Collaborates with other UWMC and UW Medicine health system Departments.
Is able to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Human Resources
Hires, develops, mentors, coaches and supervises team members and direct reports.
Provides for professional growth and development of leadership team both jointly and individually.
Oversees departmental nursing orientation program, staff training and competency programs.
Counsels and develops leaders/managers and employees and, as appropriate, utilizes the disciplinary process.
Works with management team to address staff grievances or concerns.
Medical Staff Relationships
Collaborates with medical directors, other medical leaders and managers.
Collaborates with department administrators to engage medical staff in efficient clinic operations and productivity.
Financial Management and Reporting
Develops multiple annual department budgets to meet target expectations (FTE, contribution margin, and volume).
Develops capital budget priorities for multiple programs.
Monitors financial performance and takes necessary corrective action to meet targets.
Develops and implements staffing plans and benchmarks to ensure appropriate staffing levels and maximizes resource utilization.
Develops and maintains monitoring tools and reports that provide appropriate indicators of performance.
Plans annual program quality improvement projects and implements improvements. Oversees quarterly or periodic progress reports on QI performance monitors and dashboard.
Oversees development of special reports for project or program development.
Clinical Operational Efficiency
Plans and directs improvement initiatives for multiple programs for efficient clinical operations that leads to standardized processes.
Allocates resources to support managers and medical directors on clinic specific initiatives as prioritized.
Collaborates with IT team to improve effectiveness of electronic medical record.
Works with Essential Services and Support Services leadership to ensure smooth transitions between departments for continuity of patient care.
Customer Service
Models customer service standards at all times.
Creates a culture in the departments that emphasizes the importance of providing exceptional customer service.
Uses data to prioritize quality improvement efforts to maximize impact on patient care improvements.
Serves as a member of committees focused on improving customer service,
quality and safety.
Regulatory Compliance
Oversees infrastructure and ensures programs meets all regulatory standards in a continual readiness framework.
Serves as a member of UWMC committees regarding patient safety, representing the division.
Ensures that program staff are trained in all areas of compliance (TJC, DOH, etc).
Facilities Management
Oversees a program that ensures facilities are compliant with UWMC policy and regulatory guidelines.
Ensures that departments and patient care areas maintain a neat and organized space to provide for a safe and effective environment.
Other Responsibilities
Performs other related duties as required.
Collaborates with other UWMC and UW Medicine health system departments.
Is able to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Helps to cover Administrator On Call Duties for UWMC.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in Social Work AND at least 12-15 years of successful leadership in a large academic hospital or health care system.
Active professional Social Work licensure in State of Washington.
Demonstrated competence in social work leadership, clinical and practice management and be comfortable and conversant with the tools and techniques associated with process improvements, change management, and major systems change through the use of group processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Administrative experience in an academic medical center.
Demonstrated ability to work with medical staff, managers and other staff as part of the Patient Care Services Division.
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams which include faculty and staff.
Proven successful communication and interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and effective management of projects.
Basic computer knowledge and command of basic personal computer skills.
Credible presence with a professional image.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
