Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Control Nurse duties :

  • Plans, implements, directs, and evaluates the facility’s education program.
  • Evaluates staff training needs, and provides the Administrator and DNS with comprehensive recommendations concerning the educational/training needs of nursing staff.
  • Provides the ED and DNS with an annual schedule of planned education programs and posts a monthly calendar of education programs.
  • Maintains current education records of classes / in-services conducted, attendance and clinical performance of each attendee.
  • Participates in the employee performance appraisal process by providing attendance records and observations of nursing staff performance to the DNS.
  • As Infection Control Preventionist; implements, educates, and maintains trending records of infections occurring in Center.
  • Provides monthly and quarterly infection control reports to DNS, ED and Quality Assurance (QA) Committee with proposed action plans for review and approval.
  • Makes appropriate Center reports to Medical Director and Public Health Agency per State regulation for reportable diseases.
  • Provides education pertaining to infection control, safety, and residents’ rights for all employees.
Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Control Nurse requirements :
  • Current state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Two years’ experience in nursing; one year in long-term care, preferred.
  • One year experience in planning, implementing and directing educational programs for adults in the nursing field.
  • Experience in supervising nursing assistants.
  • Completion of college course work in education or an approved Train-the-Trainer course.
